Forest shower – Let nature in

Forest shower – Let nature in

The installation/project Forest shower was presented at design march 2019. The aim was to make an installation experience by using the essential oils that we produce, disperse them into the air to be inhaled and easily absorbed by the body.

The shower works like a huge essential oil diffuser, the equipment consists of ultrasonic sound waves that is used to break down the essential oils into micro particles, allowing the oil to be dispersed as a very fine cold mist using only water and essential oils.  The ideology of the Forest shower has a connection to Shinrin-yoku which is a term that means “taking in the forest atmosphere" or "forest bathing." It was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. The trees release antimicrobial essential oils, called phytoncides, that protect trees from germs and have a host of health benefits for people.

Shinrin-yoku

Forest bathing or Shinrin-yoku (which means basically just being in the presence of trees) became part of a public health program in Japan in 1982. Research by Japanese and Korean scientists, i.a. at the Nippon Medical School in Tokyo and Chiba University, have shown that forest baths lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, improve the immune system and ease general well-being. The reason can be found in essential oils or phytoncides produced by the trees and released to protect against bacteria and insects. The forest air doesn’t just make you feel good, but it actually seems to improve your immune system.

For those who do not get out into the woods regularly, Nordic angan brings you The forest shower – Let nature In. Enjoy breathing the healthy aroma of the forest and let nature in!
